Maplesoft Group is currently seeking a Database Administrator to join one of our clients located in Ottawa

The Database Competency Centre (DBCC) provides services for multi DBMS platforms, including Oracle, DB2, IDMS, Sybase and MS-SQL Server to various CIO Branch teams who support n-house developed systems.  They are the official corporate point of service for all database activities.

The DBCC is a center of excellence and structured in a matrix like organization, ensuring that any team member (FTE or consultant) can be asked to work on a given corporate system release or to resolve a production issue.

Although the Database Administrators are often assigned a series of systems for a given length of time, their expertise could be called upon by the Manager of the DBCC or its delegate, to assist in other database activities.

Database Administrators are expected to provide any DBMS related services, including, but limited to:
• DBMS installation, set-up and configuration;
• DBMS administration;
• DBMS security;
• DBMS optimization, including DML performance tweaks;
• DBMS monitoring, including review of logs;
• Mitigation of database disasters and ensuring recoverability;
• Adherence to corporate hosting standards;
• Database relocation and/or migration, including to other platforms;
• Database operations, some of which is on a 24/7/366 basis;
• Custom database support for ERPs like PeopleSoft, Open Text, Pen Fax/Seibel, and MS Dynamics;

The DBCC is hiring MS-SQL DBA capable of doing the operational duties.  This includes, but is not limited to:
• Install, patch and maintain the MS SQL DBMS in ESX / VM running on Windows and hosted in data centers;
• Advise DBCC Manager and/or Team Leads on effective usage of various Microsoft products including DW, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS;
• Perform regular MS SQL DBA tasks, including database creation, configuration, monitoring, database refreshes, capacity planning and release preparation;
• Design and administration of MS SQL Cluster;
• Take ownership in solving Operational issues;
• Provide analysis and database optimization services;
• Prepare weekly status reports with time reporting in CIO Branch system;
• Write technical briefs in details and/or layman term;
• Participate and represent DBCC interests in designated meetings;
• Create task lists and estimate work effort for various release activities;
• Document technical specifications;
• Mentor other DBCC consultants, employees and other application development clients;
• Raise issues and make recommendations to DBCC Manager or his delegate;
• Work collaboratively with team members;
