Maplesoft Group is currently seeking a Manager of Data Science to join one of our clients located in Ottawa for a permanent role

Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications, the Manager of Data Science will be an integral part of the CTO division working with the IT Infrastructure and service group, enterprise solutions, cybersecurity and smart technology group.

The Manager, Data Science is a key position within the Information Technology team responsible for leading efforts to innovatively combine data, technology and scientific techniques to discover and deliver valuable business insights. The role requires end-toend “hands on” experience working with data, including querying, aggregation, analysis, modelling and visualization to translate raw data into actionable information for decision makers.

The Manager, Data Science leverages their business acumen and strong communication and influencing skills to work cross-functionally with stakeholders at all levels of the business, applying algorithms and programming knowledge to enable the business to develop actionable analytics.

Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Develop and lead partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company and industry data to drive business solutions and innovation.
- Lead data analysis initiatives to identify gaps and structure issues to develop recommendations for optimization and improvement.
- Explore, understand and evaluate data in relation to business needs, synthesizing data from multiple sources into meaningful information to support planning and decision making.
- Conceptualize and deliver data models, data dictionaries, analytical tools, and dashboards that empower stakeholders, enabling them to access data and draw insights in a self-serve manner.
- Extend company’s data with third party sources of information when needed.
- Evaluate emerging artificial intelligence technologies including machine learning, predictive analytics, pattern recognition and smart data discovery for applicability to the current business and to identify and evaluate growth opportunities.
- Provide stewardship of technologies to enable optimal data lake/warehousing, data analysis and visualization capabilities across the organization.
- Contribute to the development and oversight of a data governance strategy, to improve the availability, usability, integrity and security of data, including privacy by design.
- Collaborate with teams and contributors on work assignments and deliverables
- Lead data/analytics skill and knowledge development with a strong focus on delivery and agile methodologies

Education/ Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in, statistics, information systems, computer science, engineering, business administration or related field
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics or related functions
- Minimum of 7 years of experience with data profiling, cleansing, and integrations
- Demonstrated experience leveraging data mining techniques to process large scale data and assemble complex, high quality datasets
- Hands-on experience with big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Amazon RedShift)
- Strong data visualization skills and experience with analytical tools (e.g. Tableau)
- Expert level knowledge working with SQL, data structures, algorithms and distributed systems
- Knowledge of data governance practices
- Experience leading teams and projects
- Experience partnering with and influencing senior level stakeholders
- English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset

- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work with subject matter experts to understand their current data and systems, and to translate this into a data warehouse that will enable the generation of data in a way that feeds business intelligence.
